This articles covers an XD variant in MudRunner - American Wilds and SnowRunner - Freightliner & Western Star Dual Pack; for TwinSteer variant of the same truck in SnowRunner base game see: Western Star 6900 TwinSteer The Western Star 6900XD is a licensed truck in MudRunner introduced in the American Wilds DLC and SnowRunner introduced in the Freightliner & Western Star Dual Pack.
Western Star 6900XD is the epitome of strength and reliability. Built for the toughest conditions, this truck boasts incredible cargo capacity, great cross-country capability, and exceptional durability. It's great for off-road driving and transporting massive loads of goods. Its reinforced frame, all-wheel drive, and powerful engine let it deal with jobs that others balk at. With a roomy cab that offers comfort combined with total control, 6900XD is behemoth built for those who stop at no end.
How to Obtain[]
- In singleplayer, it always spawn in both maps of the American Wilds DLC - with a random addon (for most of the time it is either a Log Carriage or a Trailer Hitch), or no addons at all - at random locations. The player simply has to discover the truck or reveal watchpoints to unlock it for use in that map.
- To use it as a starter vehicle on map, it requires 1 progression point.
After installing Freightliner & Western Star Dual Pack, the Western Star 6900XD becomes immediately available for TBA currency. Unless playing on Hard Mode or with specific New Game+ rules, a copy of it will also be found in the storage.
Description[]
The 6900XD is the most capable model in Western Star's lineup, designed for severe duty applications like mining, oil field jobs, and logging, which is its primary purpose in American Wilds.
It serves a very unique and important role in the American Wilds maps: the main workhorse truck. Its size, role, and parameters put it in the same performance bracket as the base game's C-class trucks. However, the similarity to the other trucks in the class ends there, as it has its own weaknesses and strengths compared to its peers. The player should find its strong points and use them to the fullest to realize the vehicle's maximum potential.
Pros[]
- The only AWD-capable semi-truck in American Wilds.
- Capable of a high top speed, and maintaining adequate handling even at those speeds, as well as decent gradability, even with heavy loads, and good towing capabilities, thanks to its high engine output. Not to mention the vehicle is quite durable for its build and the speed it is capable of reaching.
- Capable of self-loading long logs. This advantage is only shared with the Freightliner FLD120.
- Capable of self-loading a 7-log-point load in one go. This advantage is only shared with the Freightliner FLD120, C-6317 and K-9000 Forwarder.
- Always spawns in both American Wilds maps. Its performance is very good for said maps, as it can fill almost any role, making it invaluable and indispensable.
- Very easy unlock requirement for a 3-balance-point vehicle.
- Shares many in-game parameters as the C-260 in the base game - being a large truck with a very powerful engine.
Cons[]
- Poor performance in mud due to its massive weight and inadequate tires.
- Can easily get stuck on various types of obstacles and in water if used improperly.
- High fuel consumption, especially with AWD enabled and climbing uphill with heavy loads.
- Narrow selection of addons, being unable to repair or refuel itself without external assistance.
At early development stages of SnowRunner, Western Star 6900XD, along with all American Wilds vehicles and A-3151 was ported to the game for testing purposes. Then, Western Star 6900XD made its fully revamped appearance in Freightliner & Western Star Dual Pack.
In SnowRunner, comparing to MudRunner, it has option to install engageable or unlocked diff. lock, with engageable diff. lock installed it has better looking like in MudRunner. It also has the long frame body to install LK-2NY superheavy crane, 3-slot flatbed/sideboard bed, long fuel/water tank and etc. It also has its unique vehicle extraction kit with 350 repair points, 3 spare wheels and 180L of fuel and wrecker (tow truck).
Pros[]
- Long frame unlike its MudRunner counterpart, supporting almost all in-game addons
- Supports all 3 log types and almost all logging combos
- Long frame allows him to install addons
- Unique ability with having LC3.8 crane installed at rear part, this ability allows the crane to more easily load both the sideboard bed as well as any trailer
- Unique tow truck addon has the same ability as the Tatra FORCE T815-7 one
Cons[]
- While having long frame with long addons support, it cannot install large maintenance frame addon
- Loading crane cannot be installed with long bed
- Does not support any trailer with tow truck addon
- Rear-focused weight bias reduces turning abilities while hauling loaded saddle trailers or vehicle extraction kit
- Low power-to-weight causes a poor fuel economy in severe conditions

Trivia[]
- Before the Old Timers update, the Western Star 6900XD could install the Fuel Cistern and Utility Attachment addons, but the patch later removed such capabilities. The Freightliner FLD120 was also affected by the patch.
- The front axle on the in-game 6900XD is not a proper driven axle. It is simply an un-driven axle with a modeled differential casing, and it can be revealed by fully turning the front wheels left or right, or climbing over a high-enough obstacle and set the camera angle low. This might hint at the original purpose of the truck not being a full-fledge 6x6 offroad truck but a 6x4 on-road truck, but was later changed. It could also simply be developer oversight.
- Western Star 6900XD, along all American Wilds vehicles and A-3151, was ported to SnowRunner at its early development stages for testing purposes. This version is particularly different for having larger front bumper and an additional set of beacons.
- Western Star 6900XD, along with Freightliner FLD120, made its fully rebuilt appearance in Freightliner & Western Star Dual Pack for SnowRunner.
- On one of the screenshots for Freightliner & Western Star Dual Pack DLC, it was seen that Western Star 6900XD appears with van body addon and LC 3.8 loading crane combo, however, it cannot do this in game.
