- The name Krot is Russian (Крот) for mole, an animal adapted to a subterranean livestyle that digs burrows underground.
- Both TK-53 "Krot" and ATM-53 Pioneer vehicles share exactly the same chassis, cabin and interior. This is due to both vehicles being a modification to an AT-A tractor in real life.
- The TK designation most likely stands for Transheynyy Kopatel, Russian (Траншейный Копатель) for Trench Digger.
