This article covers a truck in SnowRunner; for another trucks based on ZiL-133 series in Spintires see: B-133 and B-133GYa

The Step 39331 "Pike" is a truck in SnowRunner introduced in the Grand Harvest DLC.

Although its first prototypes being completed in early 60s, the Pike met a rather turbulent fate. While the need for a more capable specialist truck was high, these prototypes had to compete with the cabin-over-engine designs made by the freshly-established Azov factory. Despite this, 39331 entered production in mid-70s, and was such a success that its thoroughly revised and upgraded variants were still being made almost 25 years after its debut.

Unlocking[]

Step 39331 "Pike" is found on The Institute map in Belozersk Glades on the course of A gift horse task. The mission is available immediately after unlocking the Institute via The Beast Rising and Sample Field contracts, player has to repair and refuel the 39331 "Pike". Step 39331 "Pike" is granted to the player as a part of the reward and player is able to purchase more of this vehicle in the truck store afterwards.

Description[]

The Step 39331 "Pike" is based on the ZIL-133, a legendary vehicle from the Eastern bloc. The ZIL-133 was an upgraded variant of the ZIL-130 and was produced from 1975 to 2000 before being replaced by a modernized variant. The Pike has some notable differences compared to the 133, the headlights are completely redesigned being located in the upper portions of the front bezel instead on the lower like the 133. The turn signals are also flipped in the same manner essentially giving the impression that the lights are upside down. The grill is also completely redesigned featuring a more stylized appearance with the Step badge being placed in the center as opposed to the 133s badge being on the hood. The windshield on the Pike is also a 2 piece design instead of a solid 1 piece like the 133, The rest of the vehicle design remains relatively unchanged.

Though the Pike might be old it is an extremely dependable vehicle. Due to its always on AWD and differential locks it can rip through mud in its higher gears provided it has the engine power to back it up. Unlike most other vehicles it can equip its larger tire sizes on stock suspension which will provide a small increase to ride height without affecting its stability. Furthermore its factory UCD tires provide acceptable traction across all 3 terrains. It can also equip super single mud tires to further enhance its performance in mud. The vehicle is also extremely stable even with large add ons like the van body thanks its low center of gravity and wide wheel base. However as a drawback the Pike can suffer from wheelspin when unloaded due to its light weight.

The Pike features the old medium duty Russian engines and the standard selection of medium duty gearboxes. Its engine selections provide it a generous variety of power or fuel economy depending on what the player desires.

Add-on selections are very generous for the Pike. It can equip virtually every add-on variety with a few exceptions. It can not equip standard flatbed or sideboard beds, however instead has a unique wooden sideboard bed which also includes 60L of extra fuel. Optional roof rack provides 150 repair points and a further 80L of fuel. The vehicle can equip a spare tire behind ther cab that does not interfere with most add-ons, though it does conflict with the loading crane if the sideboard bed is mounted.

The Pike has an average fuel tank size of 250L. With a fuel efficient engine selected and optional fuel addons the truck has a excellent operational range.

Pros[]

  • Good offroader with larger allterrain or mudtires
  • Stock UCD1 tires good for all terrain types, on par with JAT AT tires
  • Rasied suspension not required to equip largest tires
  • Special trunk bed comes with additional 60L of fuel
  • Roof rack with 150 repair and 80L of fuel
  • Can have 390L of fuel and 150 repair with crane + bed + trailer combo

Cons[]

  • Largest engine upgrade burns through fuel rather fast
  • Maximum tire size is only 43''
  • No offroad tires option
  • Lack of chain tires makes the truck a poor choice for ice
  • Is quite a small truck

Trivia[]

  • The in-game "Pike" name was also an actual nickname given to the real ZiL-133 trucks the Step 39331 "Pike" is based on and the truck store description closely resembles the actual development history of ZiL-133 trucks, including the reference to the Azov factory as a stand-in for actual KamAZ plant, with the production of the model ZiL-133G1 to start exactly in the mid-70s.
    • Although in comparison to the actual ZiL-133G1 model, or any other truck from ZiL-133 family, neither of them had a six-wheel drive like the in-game Step 39331 "Pike" has.
  • Comes with contemporary black number plates.
