The Prototype Exploration Unit, unofficially known too as Mobile Recon Unit, is a scout trailer available in Search & Recover DLC for SnowRunner.

Description[]

The Mobile Recon Unit trailer appears to be based on military towable reconaissance units, mainly on the British Radar, Anti-Aircraft No. 3 Mk. 7 for the trailer design, and on the Soviet PRW-13 radio altimeter for the antenna design.

On the back of the trailer, НЕ НАСТУПАТЬ (NE NASTUPAT) is written, which translates from Russian as Do Not Step.

Usage[]

The Mobile Recon Unit is a scout trailer with a very unique function that can assist in scouting immensely while also being extremely easy to use with the proper vehicle.

The Mobile Recon Unit can be towed by any vehicle that is also compatible with scout trailers. To activate it the player must use the menu and activate the radar function. Once activated the trailer will begin an automatic process of scanning the surrounding area with a relatively long animation. During the animation the trailer will automatically lower support legs similar to those found on cranes. It will then open to reveal a radar dish that after unfolding, rotates once before folding in and closing and completing the animation.

After scanning an area the Mobile Recon Unit will reveal a 350 meter circular radius around the trailer itself, rivaling that of watchtowers, making it a useful asset for scouting out areas.

The Mobile Recon Unit however requires fuel to perform a radar scan. It has a built in 120L fuel tank and requires 20L to scan giving it 6 scans before requiring a refuel. Despite it being able to save on much more fuel than it spends, it is still wise to pair it with scouts that can hold more fuel. If a scout itself is low on fuel or low amounts of fuel are needed to finish a task, the Mobile Recon Unit can be used as a fuel trailer in a pinch.

The Mobile Recon Unit is limited due to its role as an exclusive scout trailer. It must be physically attached to a trailer hitch to activate its radar scan meaning the Burlak 6x6, TUZ 420 "Tatarin", Rezvani Hercules 6x6, Ford F 750, KHAN 39 Marshall, and Chevrolet Apache can't use it. In order to use the unit frequently while fuel stations are scarce or unavailable in remote regions like Imandra or Island Lake then a scout with large fuel storage is also needed. This makes the International Loadstar 1700 and YAR 87 both excellent choices due their large fuel storage via add-ons providing both the vehicle itself, and trailer with sufficient fuel.

The Mobile Recon Unit also does not require the scout it is paired with to be running but the trailer must be resting on its wheels to perform the scan.
