The KRS 58 "Bandit" is an 8x8 truck in SnowRunner introduced in the Explore & Expand DLC and in the base game of Expeditions.

Somewhat surprisingly for successful custom-made trucks, the KRS 58 is born less out of necessity for a vehicle too niche in its specifications to be a mass-produced model, but from a simple question - 'can we make it 8x8?'. Based on a custom chassis, "Bandit" is a conglomeration of separate parts or entire systems taken from different trucks, combined in a single, robust package, featuring impressive mobility off the road as well as an in-built crane.

Description[]

The Bandit is primarily based on the P8WD GEOLKOM, a custom built off-road vehicle with half of a PAZ-3206 bus body mounted on a stretched GAZ-66 frame with an 8x8 powertrain. The Bandit shares many similar traits with the GEOLKOM including a built in crane, sideboard bed, and large spot light centered between each windshield. The Bandit also has many visual differences from its real world counterpart. Unlike its real world counterpart using a PAZ bus body the Bandit's cab appears to be based on a TS-3965 bus body. This is evident by the Bandits angled front nose as opposed to a completely smooth front end. The Bandits front windshield is a bit larger overall and features sharp downward angles in the top center instead of the square design seen in the TS-3965. The Bandit's headlights and grill are based on the PAZ-3206 instead. The Bandit's side windows also are based on the window design from a PAZ-3206 but the cab uses sharper square like edges like a TS-3965.

Despite its relatively light weight and somewhat average engine options, the Bandit is an extremely capable vehicle. Its Always on AWD and differential lock allow it to face any kind of terrain, especially when equipped with its wide mud tires. It can also be equipped with a unique crane and a sideboard bed at the same time making cargo retrieval and hauling extremely simple. Its other addon selections can allow the Bandit to fill the role as a recovery vehicle or semi truck.

The Bandit does have a few minor weaknesses. Its fuel tank size is relatively small and though it is fairly fuel efficient without engine upgrades, its economy becomes fairly poor with larger engines. Its light mass can also cause it to struggle to gain traction in mud making it dependent on low gears to prevent wheel spin, but it is still more than capable with a little patience.

Pros[]

  • Available from the start of the game
  • Wide variety of addons
  • Can be fitted with the trunk repair supplies addon which includes 140L of fuel
  • Diff lock and AWD permanently engaged
  • Can be fitted with balloon tires which excels in deep mud
  • Can equip a crane, a sideboard bed and a trailer at the same time unlike most other Eastern trucks
  • Features a unique long range crane, which is the most powerful loader crane in the game

Cons[]

  • Fuel economy is fairly poor when engine upgrades are used
  • Light weight can make heavy hauling a bit difficult
  • Vehicle can be a bit top heavy with narrow tires equipped which can lead to it falling over if driven on uneven terrain
  • Not the fastest truck, particularly while hauling heavy loads
  • Small fuel tank for an 8x8 truck
  • Small snorkel design

Upgrade locations[]

Trivia[]

  • The truck is named after user Bandit58.
  • In Russian and Czech language versions of the game, the truck is named KRS 58 «Бандит» and KRS 58 „Bandita“, respectively. In Russian, it is the only truck to have its name spelled with Cyrillic alphabet.
  • The truck's unique loading crane reads "Banano", which is a reference to the real-life crane manufacturer Tadano.
