Sandbox Mode[]
Default mode for maps in Spintires and Spintires: MudRunner, can be played in single and multiplayer modes. Completing the goal will give Progression Points used to unlock next maps and trucks. Can chose any cars and trucks.
Co-op/Multiplayer Mode[]
Mode in Spintires, Spintires: MudRunner and SnowRunner that allows up to 4 people to play on sandbox maps together. In SnowRunner, only the host will progress through missions.
Challenges/Challenge Mode[]
Mode introduced in Spintires: MudRunner for maps with non-standard goal rather then sandbox maps. The base game contains 9 challenge maps, with American Wilds expansion challenges were expanded to 11 maps. Completing a goal will unlock the next challenge.
Proving Ground[]
Mode in Spintires, Spintires: MudRunner and SnowRunner for a special map where the player can freely spawn and modify test vehicles and trailers on a small map with all kinds of terrain and obstacles. In SnowRunner, a summer and a winter version are available.
Tutorial[]
Mode introduced in Spintires: MudRunner for one special map used to learn new players how to play.
Classic Mode[]
Mode in Spintires and Spintires: MudRunner used on every sandbox maps in base game and The Valley DLC where player's goal is load logs from Log Stations or Log Kiosk, then deliver them to the Lumber Mill. mudrunner mode
Scavenger Mode[]
Mode introduced in The Ridge DLC to Spintires: Mudrunner and reused in American Wilds expansion on sandbox maps. It differs in the presence of Scavenge Stations instead of Log Kiosks, as Log Kiosks' avaliable cargo are randomized with each spawn and therefore cannot be chosen manually.
Casual Mode[]
Mode in Spintires and Spintires: MudRunner used to define difficulty level on sandbox maps.
- Can recover in unlocked garages.
- This applies to all vehicles, as opposed to Hardcore, where only A-class vehicles, Hummer H1, Chevrolet K5 Blazer, Chevrolet NAPCO 3100, Ford F150 and B-6A can be recalled.
- Can skip the nighttime. (Single player only)
- Damaging the truck doesn't change the parameters.
- Fuel consumption is lower then in Hardcore Mode.
- Navigational route is visible in-game.
- Some achievements are unavailable.
Hardcore Mode[]
Mode in Spintires and Spintires: MudRunner used to define difficulty level on sandbox maps.
- Only 2 additional trucks instead of 4 will spawn on the map. (Multiplayer only)
- Garages require double the number of points to unlock. (Multiplayer only)
- Diff lock can't be engaged while using automatic gearbox mode, and can damage the truck when driving on hard surfaces.
- This does not apply to vehicles with permanent diff lock.
- Log Stations are disabled. Only manual loading available at Log Kiosks or scavenge stations.
- Navigation is limited to the distance and position of next route node.
- A damaged truck will struggle to steer. Its engine has less power and will stall.
- Wheels will auto-steer and force the truck to move downhill on slopes.
Hard Mode[]
Phase 4 of SnowRunner adds a new hard mode to further increase the difficulty of the game.
- Objective markers are removed and replaced with marker zones that show the area of where the objective is located. Unloading zones however are still marked on the map per usual.
- Recovering vehicles now costs money depending on the vehicle class.

- Auto loading cargo now costs 150 per unit of cargo to load, regardless of their size. Manual loading is still free.
- All vehicles and upgrades are sold at 50% of their full value. Trailers can still technically be sold, but yield nothing.
- Vehicles are no longer automatically repaired and refueled at garages. Each vehicle has a static repair cost depending on their class no matter how much damage they have received.
- Scout - 1500
- Highway - 1500
- Heavy duty / Offroad - 2500
- Heavy - 5000
- Contests are limited to 5 attempts and will become locked after the 5th attempt.
- Refueling at fuel stations now costs money. Prices vary by location, ranging from 2-6 per liter.
- Service trailers and addons can only be replenished at new Resupply zones. Prices are based the number of missing repair points and spare tires.
- Deploying a vehicle to another garage now costs money. Deploying a vehicle to a connected region costs 1000 and 3500 to any other region.
- All add-ons are brought empty and must be refilled. Add-ons that spawn on the map however are still full.
- DLC vehicles no longer spawn in the garage when starting a new game and must be obtained otherwise.
Trial Mode[]
Mode in SnowRunner featuring a custom map, usually of small size, where the player has to complete a mission with a provided vehicle, without being able to use other vehicles or upgrade the vehicle itself. Furthermore, limitations will be applied compared to the Sandbox Mode, such as: no map view, no refueling, no recovery and/or a time limit. Successfully completing a trial for the first time will unlock the use of dashboard toys in Sandbox Mode.
