Breakable Ice

A medium sized truck stuck under the ice The Breakable Ice is a new environment element introduced in Search & Recover DLC, that makes one of the main obstacles in Kola Peninsula. While not retroactively appearing in Alaska, the breakable ice has been reused since in the base game trials - Snowbound Valley, Zalukodes and The Slope - as well as in other DLC regions - Yukon, Amur, Maine and Scandinavia.

Overview A river covered in breakable ice The breakable ice may be found in the central parts of the iced rivers or covering small lakes, while the outer parts are made of solid ice. Areas with exposed water are likely to be covered with breakable ice underneath, as the indication of its placement, bits of cracked ice may also appear over some mud trails mixed with snow, although they do not pose much of a danger.

Scout vehicle without additional weight does not break through the ice Upon contact of the vehicle with the ice, the applied weight and the speed of the vehicle determine whether the ice may break. Medium vehicles, especially when loaded, can very easily get stuck under the ice and without additional help of other vehicles, won't be able to overcome the iced terrain. Light vehicles however can stay on the ice without breaking it, if the speed is managed, those vehicles can easily move across iced areas.

A heavy vehicle easily moves continuously through the iced area Heavy vehicles such Caterpillar 745C or Azov 42-20 Antarctic, with their weight, large tires and both AWD and Diff. Lock, can easily manage large quantities of breakable ice, serving as a good rescue vehicles or a support for other medium vehicles.
